Phil Atkins -

ISA Certified Arborist PR-5501A

Phil has been working in the arboriculture industry since 2011, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the crew! Living in Manitoba and working part-time a few years, Phil made the leap to full time Climbing Arborist in 2014 when he successfully obtained his Manitoba Arborist Certification. By 2015, Phil was at the helm of his own company building his community and provided exceptional tree services to his growing client base. This knowledge of the intricacies of business ownership will provide incredible value to the continued growth of Red Moutain Rigging!

By 2018, Phil had married his amazing wife and the two made the decision to move to Calgary in an effort to be closer to family. Phil quickly continued his work as an arborist with a leading tree service company within the City, fine tuning his technical skills and incredible knowledge of tree biology. This dedication to his craft has culminated in him successfully obtaining his certification with the International Society of Arboriculture as a Certified Arborist, a professional organization that truly sets the international standard for the industry.

We're incredibly excited to have Phil a part of the Red Mountain family, bringing his extensive knowledge and experience with intricate ornamental pruning to the team. When asked what his favorite part of his career as an arborist has been, Phil is quick to point out the pride he finds in helping people enjoy their trees, rather than being afraid of them. Phil very much looks for ways to sustain and nurture your trees to ensure long and healthy lives, and is eager to share that experience and passion with the entire Red Mountain team.

Sean Sterna -

Tree Removal Specialist & Rope Technician

Sean joined the Red Mountain team in early 2020, after working with and learning from an ISA certified arborist for several years. Sean brings a wealth of safety, emergency response and rope skills to the team. Born in Calgary and growing up in the Rocky Mountains, Sean gravitated towards rock and ice climbing, alpine mountaineering, skiing and mountain biking.

While attending the University of Calgary where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Sciences, Sean worked at the university’s Outdoor Centre running free ride mountain bike tours and teaching rock climbing and rope techniques. After graduating, Sean worked as the Assistant Ski Patrol Director at a local ski resort, where he was tasked with coordinating avalanche control and emergency medical response while leading in-service training on rope rescue and lift evacuation techniques.

After trading in the ski life to build on new career aspirations, Sean joined the local volunteer fire department where he has served the past 9 years and continues to serve as a Fire Captain. A certified technician in ice and rope rescue techniques, his role with the fire department has him in charge of in-service training once again, mentoring the departments members on safe fire ground operations and various rescue techniques.
